Minimally-invasive, image-guided treatment of cancer / tumors, treatment of diseases of the liver (including portal hypertension and bile duct diseases), treatment of vascular malformations, and interventional radiologic treatment of musculoskeletal diseases

Additional Information

Dr. Ahmed is currently the Director of the NIH-funded Minimally Invasive Tumor Therapy Lab in the Department of Radiology at BIDMC.  His research interests are focused on studying the tumor and tissue biology of image-guided targeted tumor therapies, including percutaneous ablation and trans-arterial embolization, and developing combination therapies with nanocarrier-loaded drug platforms.  He was recognized for his research by the Society of Interventional Radiology with its’ prestigious 2014 Gary J. Becker Young Investigator Award. He has co-authored more than 60 peer-reviewed original research articles in his field and 20 invited reviews book chapters, and is principal investigator on independent NIH/NCI governmental and national societal funding for his research. Given his expertise in the field of image-guided tumor treatment, he has been the lead author and significant contributor to several international societal and expert panel consensus practice documents. Dr. Ahmed is also an active and award-winning reviewer for leading journals in his specialty. He gives invited talks on his research at various national and international societal meetings annually.
